Hello.

Just venting.

This is the third f@#$ing time i’ve tried to download the Blackberry Enterprise Server Express 5.0.2 from the dog slow blackberry site.

I HATE BLACKBERRIES!

Get an iPhone they just work. If you don’t like iPhones, get an Android phone they are heaps better than Blackberries. If you don’t like Android phones or iPhones, get a windows mobile phone… and if you don’t like them either, get a Nokia.

Check this screen shot.

Blackberry can go get f!@$ed!

The server just stops working for no reason every now and then. The error messages are so vague. The solutions are so long winded they might as well say “If you have a problem with your BES server, try just doing everything you can possibly do to fix it”.

Anyone else hate blackberries?

If you stumbled across this link hoping to find a way to download the BESX_express_5.0.2.exe file in a reasonable time frame (ie not 4-5 hours) then sorry to have wasted your time. BUT I will maybe save you a-lot of heart ache. CHECK THIS PIC! FFS AT 99%… THIS IS A F!@#ING JOKE!

Please share your frustrations. Would also love to hear from someone who has nothing but shiny gold emotions falling from blackberries arse.

Hi All,

If you have Facebook blocked at work, it could just be a simple cheap DNS block, where the administrator has replaced the DNS entry for facebook.com on your local DNS server.

Unfortunately, changing the DNS server that your local machine uses, may not always be the easiest way around it, as the local DNS server might have entries that are required for local access to intranet etc to work.

Below is a host file modification that will override the modified DNS server, and allow facebook to work:

I received the following message:

“Could not start the user profile service service”

In the system tray once logged in to the administrator user on windows sbs 2008.

When logging in as a non-administrator, I got the message:

“Please Wait For The User Profile Service”

Displayed for quite some time, before being able to see a black desktop with blank profile.

To fix it, after spending ages looking, I did the following:

Right click command prompt and run as administrator.

netsh <enter>
winsock reset <enter>
exit <enter>
exit <enter>

Then I rebooted the server as required, and the issue went away.

The issue occurred after performing windows updates, I am not sure which one kicked it off.

Hope this saves you some time!

Hi All,

A mate and I are about to test out the following Wireless 802.11N USB adapters in an attempt to create a neighbourhood link that stretches 2kms.

We intend to create an antenna similar to the ones shown at http://www.usbwifi.orconhosting.net.nz/.

We found the cheap adapters at a decent Chinese wholesaler which had them at our doorstep within 3 days for next to nothing! The adapters work fine locally, but the real test will be when they are out on the roof going for the distance using a unidirectional antenna.

They’re obviously not designed for outdoor use, but we’re just going to wrap up the metal parts in tape, and hope for the best. Worst case we’ll be up for another set if it corrodes over time, and might end up trying silicone. For that price, who cares. If it works, we’ll save about $500 each in expensive wireless kit!

Will let you know our progress.

Specs of Adapter for those interested:

Manufacturer Specifications

Main Function: Wifi 802.11N USB Dongle for wireless internet (sometimes called WLAN network adapter)

Operating Wifi Standards: IEEE 802.11N (draft 2.0), IEEE 802.11G, IEEE 802.11B

Data Rates:
- 802.11N: 300 / 150 / 108 / 81 / 54 / 27 Mbps (adaptive)

Ages ago I bought one of these head units, and had massive problems getting it to connect to my Nokia E51.

I spent ages doing research and finally found this on the Pioneer Europe website:

http://www.pioneer.eu/eur/content/support/support/update/deh_bt_update.html

They are instructions to upgrade the software on the head unit to work properly with Nokia N series phones (as well as E series obviously).

Hopefully I have saved you some time.

If you have any questions, drop a comment and I will respond or offer some advice.

All in all the deck is good. Audio quality is great, and have no issues with hearing, or people hearing me.

The mic is directional, so keep that in mind.

The menu is a bit fiddly, but once you know what to do, it is bearable.

If you still have issues after upgrading the software, I would recommend you delete all pairing etc on both the head unit and the phone, and start again from scratch. It seems to work best when pairing from the head unit rather then from the phone too.

Cheers

What is a domain?

Domain names are a friendly way of displaying, and referring to a devices Internet Protocol (IP) address.

All devices connected directly to the internet have an IP address.

Most web pages can be called directly by using the IP address in the web browser directly, unless they use virtual hosts to define the specific web hosting area.

Without domain names, we would need access Google by using the IP address. This would be difficult to remember!

An example of one of Googles many IPs is 74.125.45.100.

Instead a site like Google, or even this one, use domain names to help translate to this IP address in a humanly recognisable way.

How do I set a domain up?

To setup a domain name can be quite confusing if you are unfamiliar with how it works.

Domain registration.

Since the internet has existed, organisations like Ausregistry, and ICANN have existed to regulate domain name registration. The organisations sell and manage the rights to domain names on a yearly or bi-yearly basis.

To start with, you must find a suitable domain registrant. For Australians I would recommend Webcity. They have great prices, and excellent hosting packages to compliment.

The pricing of registration varies from registrant to registrant, so it pays to shop around.

For two years of .com.au hosting, I would expect to pay no more then $40AUD Inc. Registration for .com is cheaper, and is done yearly. I would expect to pay no more then $15AUD Inc per year.

Domain hosting.

Once you have found and registered your domain name, you will be given the opportunity to assign name servers. It is recommended you have at least two name server addresses assigned to the domain name.

The hosting information for these two name servers should reside on two separate servers to minimize downtime in case of failure.

You can setup your own name servers, but for the sake of about $10 a year, I would recommend having this hosted by a reputable company. Webcity can also help you out with this.

Setting your name servers under your domains registration can take up to 48 hours to propegate world wide. You will have to be patient if you need to change name servers.

The domain hosting information, commenly referred to as the domain zone file, contains information which tells the computer looking up the domain name, what to do.
